What is an on-grid inverter?
An on-grid inverter adapts the energy produced by the panels to the grid frequency and voltage and delivers it directly to the building's installation and the grid. Because it contains no battery, the system is simple and needs little maintenance; however, when the grid is cut it shuts down for safety reasons. The catalog includes the single-phase Uno and three-phase Trio series with many power steps.
Selection criteria
- Phase: Single-phase is generally used in homes, and three-phase connections in businesses and large facilities.
- Power class: Matched to the installed capacity determined by the consumption profile and roof area; there are also micro inverter models for small solutions.
- MPPT and number of inputs: On roof sections facing different directions or shaded, multiple MPPTs provide flexibility.
- Communication: Wi-Fi or similar data modules should be sought for remote monitoring.
When on-grid?
It suits homes, shops, workshops and agricultural businesses with mainly daytime electricity consumption. If you want to cover night-time consumption or have backup against outages, hybrid solutions should be considered.
Note for Antalya
While the region's long sunshine duration increases production, the high ambient temperature makes inverter cooling important. It is recommended to place the device in a shaded, ventilated spot.
Connection process
In grid-connected systems, the project is prepared according to the distribution company's technical conditions and goes through an application process. The inverter's grid protection settings and the meter arrangement are clarified at this stage. In three-phase systems, the limits of imbalance between phases are checked separately, and in single-phase systems the subscription power.
Feeding surplus production into the grid and net metering conditions depend on regulations; the current rules are reviewed together during the project phase. After the system is commissioned, in the first weeks the production values are compared with the expected range.
Solar Nexo
For on-grid systems, Solar Nexo offers inverter supply, panel matching, installation and technical support during the grid connection process.
