Aluminum mounting structure

Thanks to their light weight, corrosion resistance and modular structure, aluminum profile systems are widely used in rooftop solar projects. The catalog has four subgroups divided by roof type: tile, trapezoidal-sandwich, standing seam and flat roof (tilted).

System by roof type

• Tile: Aluminum hooks and rail profiles fixed under the tiles.
• Trapezoidal-sandwich: Tape, anchor and rivet connection options for trapezoidal sheet and sandwich panel roofs.
• Standing seam: Fittings and profiles that allow fixing to seamed roof sheet without drilling.
• Flat roof (tilted): Triangular leg sets that give the panels their tilt on terrace and concrete roofs.

Selection criteria

• Roof covering type and roof pitch
• Number of panels, orientation (landscape or portrait) and frame size
• Wind load and regional strength requirements
• Completeness of clamps, end clamps and grounding parts
• Need for gaskets and EPDM tape for roof waterproofing

The coastal effect and wind conditions in the region make aluminum material advantageous. It is important for installation to be done by competent crews in order to preserve the roof warranty and waterproofing.

Installation quality

Using stainless fasteners at the joints of aluminum profiles reduces electrochemical corrosion between different metals. Gaps between panels are left to allow for expansion; grounding clips are completed for all rails.

Each roof type requires different clamp sizes and rail lengths; for this reason the order list is prepared together with the panel frame thickness. The distance between rails is determined according to the panel manufacturer's support points in the instructions. During installation, the points where people step on the roof must also be protected.

Because missing or faulty parts can extend project time, a quantity check is made before delivery.

Existing installations, chimneys and ventilation protrusions on the roof are also taken into account in the layout plan; this prevents shading and maintenance access problems.
