What is BIPV?

BIPV refers to applications where the solar panel is designed as an element of the building. The TommaTech terrace panels in the catalog are of dual-glass (G2G) construction and are offered in the 240 Wp and 320 Wp power classes and in different lengths from 1.50 m to 2.00 m. They suit places such as pergolas, terrace covers and shade structures where both shade and energy production are wanted.

Selection criteria

• Length and span: The panel length must match the support spacing of the terrace or pergola.
• Light transmission: How much the area underneath will be shaded should be considered at the design stage.
• Support system: Because of the dual-glass construction, the support profile and connection details are chosen according to weight.
• Electrical connection: Low-power modules are connected in series in a number suited to the inverter input for string voltage.

Villa terraces, hotel and restaurant shade structures and garden pergolas are common in the region. BIPV panels provide shade in these areas while also generating electricity; aesthetically, they offer a different solution from the classic panel look on a roof.
