Solar Panels Alanya: Guide for Villas, Hotels and Greenhouses

Solar panel investment in Alanya: the PVGIS value of 1,615 kWh/kWp, tourism and villa loads, greenhouse applications, application notes for foreign property owners and the steps to correct sizing.

Short answer

Solar panel production in Alanya, according to PVGIS 5.3, is about 1,615 kWh per kWp per year at optimal tilt and south orientation; this is about 2.5 percent lower than central Antalya. For users with high summer loads such as villas, hotels and greenhouses, production and consumption coincide. Applications go through the LUS portal of AEDAŞ, the grid operator in Antalya.

Key takeaways

  • According to PVGIS 5.3, annual specific production in Alanya is 1,615 kWh/kWp; compared with 1,656 kWh/kWp in central Antalya, it is about 2.5 percent lower (calculation).
  • For a 5 kWp system in Alanya, theoretical annual production is about 8,075 kWh (5 × 1,615).
  • For users with high summer loads such as tourist facilities, villas and greenhouses, production and consumption peak in the same season.
  • The application is made in the name of the consumption facility's subscriber; a title deed or document of right of use is needed. Document details should be confirmed with AEDAŞ.
  • For non-residential facilities, hourly netting applies from 1 May 2026; for residential facilities, netting is monthly.

The numbers for solar panels in Alanya are favourable: according to PVGIS 5.3, 1 kWp of panels in Alanya produces about 1,615 kWh per year. This value is about 2.5 percent below central Antalya, so the difference is small. What makes Alanya different is its load structure rather than production: villas along the coast, many hotels and pensions, foreign property owners and the greenhouses in the district's farmland. In this guide we explain how solar energy can be set up for each of these user groups.

Solar panel production in Alanya: PVGIS data

PVGIS 5.3 (European Commission JRC) gives a value of 1,615 kWh/kWp for Alanya, assuming 14 percent system losses, optimal tilt and south orientation. Under the same assumptions, central Antalya is 1,656, Manavgat 1,649, Kaş 1,664, Korkuteli 1,655 and Elmalı 1,719 kWh/kWp. Although Alanya has the lowest value among these six areas, the difference from central Antalya is only 41 kWh/kWp, about 2.5 percent (calculation).

5 kWp8-98,075
10 kWp1716,150
20 kWp3332,300

Roof types in Alanya are varied: flat terraces and pitched tiled roofs in coastal villa complexes, roofs at different levels on houses on slopes, and small, fragmented roofs in the old urban fabric. For buildings in a historic fabric or protected zones, additional permission may be needed; so you first need to find out the plot's status from the municipality. If the roof is small or fragmented, it may be possible to start with fewer panels and add capacity later; however, the added capacity must comply with the limits in the regulation.

Actual production varies with roof orientation, tilt and shading. You can find the whole comparison between regions in the production data article. In Alanya, because of the rugged terrain, many roofs face the slope; the direction and pitch of the slope sometimes make roofs deviate from south. For this reason orientation is measured at the survey.

Villas and holiday homes: summer load and usage pattern

Villas in Alanya mostly have pool, air-conditioning and extensive lighting loads. While production peaks in the summer months (in Antalya, 168 kWh/kWp in July and 99 kWh/kWp in December), air conditioners and pool pumps also run most in summer. This overlap raises self-consumption. In holiday homes, the point to watch is that the house stands empty for long periods: when consumption is low, production goes to the grid. For facilities tied to a residential subscription, netting is monthly and, as of October 2026, no production or sales limit applies; however, the payment for surplus energy is the single-rate active energy unit price, not the total unit price on the bill. So for a holiday home that stands empty, it is more sensible to size the system to actual consumption.

A simple example: for a hypothetical summer house that uses 4,500 kWh a year, mostly in the summer months, the power needed is about 4,500 / 1,615 ≈ 2.8 kWp; that means 5 panels of 605 W (3.03 kWp) (calculation). For permanent residents, year-round consumption is considered and winter consumption is also taken into account. In both cases, real bill data is decisive.

If outage backup is needed for villas, a hybrid inverter and battery can be considered. In areas exposed to the sea, stainless fasteners and regular cleaning are recommended to reduce the risk of salt-induced corrosion.

Application notes for foreign property owners

Alanya has many foreign-national property owners. The unlicensed generation application is made in the name of the consumption facility's subscriber; the application requires an ID document, a document showing the right of use such as a title deed or lease, the unique code for the existing consumption facility and a statement on the activity ban. For foreign-national applicants, we recommend getting current information from AEDAŞ (the local electricity distribution company) about document requirements relating to ID and tax number; we do not state these definitively here.

Another point is that the subscription and title deed ownership must match. For the system to net, the generation and consumption facilities must belong to the same person (the same tax ID number). If the villa is rented, the permission and subscription situation between the landlord and the tenant needs to be clarified. For details, you can look at our guide to solar energy for foreigners.

Hotels and pensions: load that coincides with the summer peak

In tourist facilities, the summer season raises both occupancy and cooling load, which matches the production curve. Laundry, kitchen refrigeration, pool pumps, air conditioners and lighting create a high and continuous load during the day. Hotel roofs are generally wide flat reinforced-concrete terraces; panel layout is done with shading and maintenance walkways in mind. Because netting for non-residential facilities has been hourly since 1 May 2026, a hotel with a high daytime load has a high self-consumption rate and daytime matching matters. This is an interpretation; each facility's load profile must be measured separately.

For a scale calculation, let us consider a hypothetical pension: suppose it uses 60,000 kWh a year. In that case the power needed is about 60,000 / 1,615 ≈ 37 kWp, that is, about 62 panels of 605 W (37.5 kWp) (calculation). This size is above the 25 kW simplified procedure; so application fees and the process are different matters. The facility's contracted power and meter structure limit the project. For exact values, a preliminary feasibility study and a discussion with the distribution company are needed.

The fall in occupancy in the winter season is balanced to some extent by production also being low in that period; even so, the facility's 12-month consumption data should be the basis for sizing. Contracted power sets the system's upper limit; users other than industry, municipalities and agricultural irrigation cannot exceed contracted power. We covered the general framework of tourism investments in the article on hotels and tourist facilities.

Greenhouses and agricultural load

Greenhouse farming is widespread in and around Alanya. In greenhouses, irrigation pumps, ventilation fans, lighting and, in some facilities, climate-control equipment run. Under the regulation, agricultural irrigation facilities can install an unlicensed facility up to twice their contracted power; pricing and support in agricultural activity are assessed separately. The greenhouse roof itself may not be suitable for carrying panels because it must let light through; in that case panels are placed on adjacent land or on a storage-building roof. We covered this in detail in the greenhouse solar energy article. Solar Nexo's reference list also includes a 5.5 kW solar-powered agricultural irrigation project; pump power, well depth and irrigation hours determine sizing in such systems.

Application, acceptance and equipment rules

Because Alanya is in Antalya province, the grid operator is AEDAŞ. AEDAŞ has accepted unlicensed generation applications through the LUS portal since 1 October 2023. For rooftop systems up to 25 kW, the system cannot exceed the contracted power. Main equipment such as panels, inverters and batteries must have been manufactured within the last five years. Operating the system before acceptance is complete can lead to disconnection and a ban on applying. We explained the process step by step in our rooftop solar application article; because rules may change, you should confirm the current situation with AEDAŞ.

For property owners living abroad, remote monitoring has particular importance. With mobile monitoring, production and possible fault alerts can be followed remotely; on houses that stand empty out of season, seeing whether production is at the expected level helps catch problems such as panel soiling or an inverter fault early. The availability of a local team for maintenance and on-site intervention is also a weighty criterion in the choice.

Solar Nexo is an Antalya-based company and states on its website that it works in 5 service regions. At the survey, the roof, consumption and grid situation are assessed on site; the survey is free.

Conclusion

A solar panel investment in Alanya offers almost the same production as central Antalya according to PVGIS; the difference is in load structure and application details. For a villa, real consumption; for a hotel, the hourly profile; for a greenhouse, the choice of roof and land are decisive. The right step is to begin with on-site measurement and a written project. Frequently asked questions

How much electricity do solar panels produce per year in Alanya?

According to PVGIS 5.3, 1 kWp of panels in Alanya at optimal tilt and south orientation produces about 1,615 kWh per year; this value includes 14 percent system losses. For 5 kWp, theoretical annual production is about 8,075 kWh. Actual production varies with roof orientation, shading and soiling; a calculation specific to your roof is made at the survey, and this value should be seen as an upper reference.

Do solar panels in Alanya produce less than in central Antalya?

Very slightly. According to PVGIS, Alanya gives 1,615 and central Antalya 1,656 kWh/kWp; the difference is about 2.5 percent (calculation). In practice, roof orientation, shading and equipment quality matter more than this difference. So a solar energy investment in Alanya can be assessed under production conditions similar to central Antalya; the real decision rests on the roof and consumption data.

Can a foreign-national property owner install solar panels in Alanya?

The application is made in the name of the consumption facility's subscriber; documents such as ID, title deed or document of right of use, and the unique code are requested. For foreign-national applicants, the details of documents such as ID and tax number should be confirmed with AEDAŞ. The installation company can help prepare this process; it is also important to get the quote and warranty documents in writing in a language you understand.

Does solar energy make sense for a hotel or pension in Alanya?

It generally does, because cooling, pool and laundry loads coincide with the production peak in the summer season. However, the decision depends on the facility's 12-month hourly consumption profile, contracted power and roof area. Netting for non-residential facilities is hourly; so the daytime load is decisive. A survey, analysis of 12 months of data and a check of the current regulation are needed for feasibility.

Can solar panels be installed on a greenhouse?

Because a greenhouse roof must let light through, it is often unsuitable for carrying panels; in that case panels are placed on adjacent land, on a storage-building roof or on a separate structure. Loads such as the irrigation pump, fans and lighting can be powered by solar. Agricultural irrigation facilities can install an unlicensed facility up to twice their contracted power; pump and fan loads are measured at the survey.

Where do you apply for solar panels in Alanya?

In Alanya, the application is made to AEDAŞ, Antalya's grid operator. AEDAŞ has accepted unlicensed generation applications through the LUS platform since 1 October 2023. For rooftop systems up to 25 kW, the documents include ID, title deed or document of right of use, unique code and a statement on the activity ban; the current list should be confirmed with AEDAŞ.
